During our three months of living in Taiwan, we took a trip to Kaohsiung as part of our southern Taiwan trip. As we were spending four nights in Kaohsiung, we were looking for a centrally located hotel close to the MRT.
After researching hotels, we chose Legend Hotel Kaohsiung Pier 2 given its fair price and location. But, once you read the review, you might agree that this hotel offers serious value. You are getting exceptional customer service at a three-star price.
The ambiance of Legend hotel Kaohsiung Pier 2
The hotel has a charming feel to it and is modern and clean. At first glance, it feels like a hotel for kids, although it attracts solo travellers and couples as well. There are beautiful drawings and murals everywhere, including the elevator.
Whenever I stepped into the elevator, I felt as if I was transported somewhere else. Each floor has a different theme with beautiful floor to ceiling murals.
The room at Legend hotel Kaohsiung Pier 2
The place is a decent size with lots of natural lighting. I was able to lay my stuff on the ground and not feel as if there was a lack of space.
The bathroom is spacious with a tub and a standing shower.
Another great thing about the room is that there are no carpets, which meant no trapped dust in carpets. The hotel also offers free pop, instant noodles (which came in handy one very hungry night), coffee and tea. The nice thing about these add-ons is that they restock pop and instant noodles daily!
There are TONS of international power outlets in the room, which is useful for us power-hungry travellers. It always felt like we had millions of tech gadgets to charge every night.
Another thing that I became super picky about after staying at Aloft Taipei Zhongshan is room ventilation. Fortunately, you can open windows in the room to allow fresh air to flow through the room.
The noise level at Legend hotel Kaohsiung Pier 2
One of the biggest things for me is the noise level and how it impacts my sleep because I am a light sleeper. Fortunately, my rest was good at this hotel. You can sometimes hear the neighbours slamming their doors, but it is few and far and not disruptive to sleep. It did get a bit noisy if you stay past 10 am in the hotel.
The service at Legend hotel Kaohsiung Pier 2
The service was exceptional during our stay, and the staff members are all very polite. We noticed that this hotel is very eager to confirm if we want no cleaning whenever we had the “do not disturb sign” up. It could be a Taiwan thing though since we noticed the same trend in other Taiwan hotels.
Another great thing about this hotel is that they offer passenger pick up if you are coming from Taipei via MRT.
While Kaohsiung has an MRT, it is not as convenient as Taipei. Trying to take public transportation from our station to the hotel would not have been easy at all. Fortunately, the hotel offers free customer pickup at the station, which we gladly took.
Another great benefit is that there are complimentary bicycles for guests!
I also liked how there are water stations on every floor.
The location of Legend hotel Kaohsiung Pier 2
The location of the hotel is excellent. You can walk to the Pier2 art area and museums as well. There is an MRT that is under a ten-minute walk from the hotel. If you are thirsty, you can stop by one of the many bubble tea shops along the way to the MRT.
Of course, there is a Family Mart and a 7-Eleven nearby which makes things convenient. Walking to the ferry that goes to Cijin Island is about 30-minutes from the hotel and very doable.
The facilities at Legend hotel Kaohsiung Pier 2
The basement of the hotel is pretty awesome. There is an air hockey table, a football machine, Xbox, computers and a large tv with tons of seating area. There are also dining tables with chargers. Coffee and snacks are free, and self serve.
Another thoughtful gesture is that there are laundromats and laundry detergents are free!
The food at Legend hotel Kaohsiung Pier 2
Our room came with free breakfast. I was quite impressed with the variety and the spread.
Conclusion
What I like about this place is that there is a lot of thought and care placed in this hotel. If you are looking for a value for money hotel near the Pier2 art district, I highly recommend this hotel.
